"That you may be strengthened in your inner being."
- Ephesians 3:16

Strength…Beauty…Courage…Compassion…Hope…Joy

Talent…Imagination…Reverence…Wisdom…Love…Faith

I am still on a quest for better understanding of these gifts because I am certain that they are far more powerful than any of us yet realize. We have only a glimpse of their value at this point in time, even though philosophers, prophets and poets have been exploring them for centuries.

So far I have learned that we open ourselves to these gifts with intention and willingness.  But before we open them, we have to claim them, accept them, say “yes” to them.

I invite you to reflect on the twelve blessings which are at the heart of each book.  Following those blessings, you’ll find some adapted versions which are meant to be used as affirmations.  Consider reciting them daily, either silently or out loud.

The Twelve Gifts in Marriage

May you look for what is good in each other.

May you respect one another’s differences.

May you make time each day for moments of play.

Everyday, may you be grateful.

May you show that you care when you come and go.

May you touch tenderly, speak kindly, and listen with attention.

May you be quick to say “I’m sorry” as well as “I forgive.”

May you choose to love even when you feel unloving.

May life’s sorrows bring you closer together.

May troubles strengthen your commitment.

Again and again, may you renew your dreams.

And may you share your love with the world.
